For context, note that AUKUS is is an alliance between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States; an anti-China plan aiming at getting nuclear-powered submarines into Aussie hands. Didn't they try to get Japan into this alliance in some way? Not my bailiwick but thought there was something I saw about it. I just remembering thinking they would just be a compliant scapegoat for the US to blame when they took Australia over completely.
