Fear and Loathing in South Africa
An eye-opener into hate and xenophobia ahead of South Africa's important 2025 election.
I was going to post this in my Tuesday newsletter. Fearing it’s impact will be lost in that news link overload, I’m posting it alone.
“BBC reporter Ayanda Charlie gains rare access to Operation Dudula, South Africa’s most notorious anti-migrant group. Dudula say they are standing up for ordinary South Africans who have been let down by the government and deny allegations that they are a vigilante group who preach a doctrine of violence. As she takes to the street with Dudula members, Charlie not only hears xenophobic rhetoric but also witnesses small business owners from neighbouring countries being physically threatened, forced to hand over their business, and hears how Dudula intend to establish a political party to contest South Africa’s upcoming general election.”
Well, that was quick and easy (but still more than the '1-minute read', as Substack classifies it. An excellent post, actually: I knew nothing about it and thought little of migrants in South Africa. This makes sense. (But I'm still not going to find time to waste on the BBC clip, although I'm sure it wouldn't be a waste of time, or else you wouldn't have selected it.)
I'm so relieved that destroying South Africa solved the hate racism corruption economy/unemployment murders rape disease & poverty. Mission accomplished! UN west is proud of their great achievments in all of Africa...🙊🙉🙈🐂💩
