Gaza War Update - 16 November 2023
UN votes for "humanitarian pauses", UK Parliament votes against "ceasefire".
Yesterday, Keir Starmer, leader of the UK’s Labour Party, faced a rebellion when 54 of his frontbenchers refused to follow his order to vote against an Israeli ceasefire. Those morals were an initial waste because Parliament uncomfortably voted against it, 293-125.
The UK’s allegiance to Israel is clear, as it was when Starmer and the Israeli lobby overthrew the party’s previous leader, Jeremy Corbyn. That Al Jazeera investigation, into a smear campaign using fake anti-semitism, was barely reported by the press, undoubtedly because of their culpability in promoting the propaganda.
Before the vote, MP Layla Moran, as seen in the video above, reported that one of her family members had died in Gaza. Before the Speaker cut her off, she said:
“Today, I wanted to vote for peace. I wanted to be voting for a two-state solution, because that is the only way that these horrors will never be seen again… I wanted to vote for getting Hamas out of Gaza, and I wanted to vote for those reasons for an immediate bilateral ceasefire, so that families like mine - but also families in Israel - don't have to endure this anymore… This is more than just party politics right now".
The USA, in weak attempt to save its image, never vetoed the UN Security Council’s resolution for “urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors throughout the Gaza Strip”. Notably, the USA, UK and Russia abstained, but a remarkable moment when a veto isn’t used on a global geopolitical issue.
It must be observed that the reworded agreement doesn’t mention a “ceasefire”, and that Biden’s administration continues to support Israeli actions. The UN’s action is as wasted as Labour’s rebels because Israel refuses to comply.
