The biggest problem is that half the country is unemployed, that figure higher for young adults. It will not improve because so many kids drop out of school, the figures manipulated by government to only say how many failed the final exam, and not how many didn't write it.
Crime is needlessly violent, a demon in culture. Yesterday, a man was charged for raping his newborn. Why kill an 80-yr-old after robbing her etc.
As part of a 7.3% minority, there's worry (considering the history of the world).
On the positive side, for the excessive corruption to continue, the State needs to be held together. And we are the most developed country in Africa which has to count. Superpowers need us/want us so that may help too.
How high is the possibility of a breakup/civil war or some other type longer lasting violence/war/insurgence in SA?
I cannot say, except that the fear lives both rationally and irrationally. The 2021 riots were a helluva taste at the possibility of a bad future - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_South_African_unrest
