ABOUT THE ANC:

I agree. The fact that ANC has been in charge for 3 decades without any serious political challenge has also helped corruption to fester. Unfortunately, DA is not the answer to the problem. You may or may not agree, but I also think the same about Julius Malema's EFF, with its incendiary racial rhetoric, and its inability to break out of its fixed seven-percent share of the electoral vote.

BANNED ANTISEMITIC READER:

That reader was posting antisemitic comments under articles that did not even mention Israel or Jews. He posted the same anti-Jewish essay-length comments under different articles dealing with Gabon, Sudan, Ethiopia, Niger Republic and Zimbabwe. When he posted the same antisemitic comment in an old article discussing Somalia and Somaliland, I just blocked him

I support no party. I gave evidence against the DA, only to have the EFF, VF+ and ANC protect them. Politics is not what people think it is i.e. it's about ensuring inequality and elitism, not fulfilling marketed ideology. It's consequently unsurprising that, at one stage, parties with radically conflicting ideologies, tried to recruit me. It's a power game, a selfish game, and I'm frightened for my country and disappointed at the future I imagine. Every week, I'm nearer to quitting, and I probably will sooner than later. It's impossible to fight well-funded power with microscopic words.

About quitting, where would you go? Unfortunately, party politics everywhere in the world is a corrupt mess. Ruling elites in most countries are crooks

Yep, 30 years ago, there were global options, but the middle class is vanishing, and troubles are almost everywhere. It's not like the average South African could emigrate. And what is "average" when everyone I know is struggling.

Politicians destroyed me, so worse for me. My travel could be away from the laptop towards a walk, a beer, a book - gosh, can't recall when last I read a fiction book.

And tougher times ahead. Maybe I should make a spear and some homemade pepper spray. There's a hobby for wannabe intellectuals :)

At least I live in a mixed colour and income area. Sure, we have our druggies, mostly white, and our alcoholics, mostly black, but we weren't as deep in trouble as the cities when they rioted in 2021. Sure, malls attacked in three directions, but only one car got burnt in our suburb. We get watershedding occasionally, but loadshedding is rare (because they can't replace the parts that break in our substation when they turn the power back on).
