This scared the s**t out of me first time round (as did 'Survivors', a series about a flu-type pandemic originating in China that wipes out the majority of the population). In some ways 'Threads' was even more scary when I rewatched it recently.
It's well worth a watch, but it's not easy going. It shows a variety of different responses to the apocalypse and doesn't shy away from difficult moral dilemmas. I think why I find it scarier now is realising that things that were normal in the mid-70s as a means of survival just aren't viable now: the ability to hand-pump fuel from a filling station, low-tech as standard, the practical skills that people took for granted, …
We started rewatching it during lockdown when we were in a particularly pessimistic and masochistic mood. I think we made it through the first 2 series…
What I hadn't expected was to notice how RP all the accents were. Apart from the strong regional accents of the obligatory ‘baddie’ or comedy characters, of course. At the time I just took it for granted that's how people on TV sounded.
Threads still haunts me to this day. It should be compulsory for everyone to help people understand the dangers we are facing in this toxic war torn world.
On the time off at christmas viewing list, alongside the other one and that Leigh miner’s strike thing.
Nice one!
Skip Xmas, watch Threads :)

'Survivors' has been on my to-do list for a long time. Think there were two seasons.

You've encouraged me. I'm moving it up my list (yes, I do lists), to be watched early next year.

It pleases me that several of you are horrified with me. Oxymorons allowed.
