I may be silent here but am still following the news, albeit in limited fashion. I start the day with Ukraine and Gaza, before heading to my country and general world news. I'm hardly on substack, but, today, I'll read two posts chosen from the home page (without me scrolling for more choices which would only have led me down the rabbit hole).
Effectively, a full day following the news has been radically cut down to under 2hrs. Thus, when I watch something positive, like this, my positive to negative ratio has substantially improved.
I'm sure to write something again, but want it to be special, maybe an angle into the current Cold War no one else is doing.
For now, I'm filing everything I have, which is an enormous challenge. I want to be paper free except for a notepad.
I only eat between 8am and 10am whilst at home.
I even got a Winter sun tan working outside today and yesterday.
Altogether, working on being healthier, and having a more focused mind.
Very sensible. We need normal to be able to deal with reality and we need to be healthy to thrive and survive. I am deleting a lot of subscriber emails for the moment to lessen the load. Sunshine is healing on all counts. Ultraviolet light is particularly important. The sun smiles on us and makes us smile. We are lucky to live in countries with a lot of sunshine.
Good for you. I deleted a lot. The ironic good/bad thing is that I'm not receiving notifications from Substack for those I have left, nor comments etc. I'm essentially blind until I login and I don't login daily. There's no way that the home page is showing me everyone's posts.
I feel like the people on the receiving end of genocide are the most noble and beautiful humans on earth. The warmth, compassion and intelligence are extraordinary. I feel this for the Palestinians too.
There's a lot of shit on YouTube but there are a few vloggers who have realised that, most times, the majority of people are not represented by their politicians and corporates. There's common humanity, an identity we can all relate to. And there's special humanity, a kindness and nobility that can only grow from hardship.
It is. The husband was part of a humanitarian aid delegation (so the cost of his trip was fundraised) that was really more about raising political awareness in the U.S. about the impact of US-led sanctions on the people of Iraq. As you can see, it was hugely successful and everything was great after that [sarcasm alert].
There is part consolation in that we cannot alter the world, but we can ourselves. I expect your husband learned something he could use in his own life.
I haven't travelled much, but, long ago, learnt lessons from short trips to Egypt and Uganda.
It is important to balance the misery news with happy news. Thanks.

Kudos to sunshine in Winter!

I’ve only watched the first ten minutes so far and it’s wonderful. My husband visited Iraq in 2000.
Glad you're watching. It goes from good to better than good.
Wish I could have seen Iraq in 2000 and in 2024. So many places I wish I had seen. Money is a hell of a thing.

Bladed irony!

Thank you Mike
